RELIEF
If I could have three wishes I think one of them would be to make dusk last a little longer.
Four hours maybe
Of relief
Once the afternoon fire fizzles out
And the white flowers shine
You can see the body of each tree against the low light
Maybe their crowns are glowing
But everything from the neck down is inky
You’re spun around dizzy from the chorus of a million voices calling out for sundown
Wherever you turn your ear
There’s a song
I don’t even have to name them one by one
You know the whole thing
You’ve known it your whole life
But you still can’t believe
The colors of the sky.
