JIM POSEWITZ HAS PASSED
I took my hunter education course prematurely. I knew logistically that I wanted to hunt for my food - but I didn’t actually know if I could.
At the end of Hunter’s Ed they sent us home with a little care package and in it was a book called “Beyond Fair Chase.” by Jim Posewitz.
I read it and that’s when I knew that I could. I could hunt and feel good about hunting. He laid it out so plain and simple and beautiful that a good hunter has a moral compass that’s centered not only in what’s best for them - but pinned right through the heart of what’s best for the whole place that they’re standing on. It can be both.
He nailed it right into the trunk of my tree and left it there for me grow around.
I couldn’t unmake that part of me if I wanted to - but I don’t.
It’s pretty rare a person stakes a claim in you like that.
Jim,
You left us yesterday but you left us better off. You’ve changed many lives - human and all the rest.
There are fireworks booming tonight and I’m thinking of you.
